well… the exhibition at the st albans town hall was… shall we say… interesting!  my funky painted ramblings did feel a little out of place amongst the pastel nudes and flower watercolours… and then there was the sticker incident; which i won’t go into, as angry beth is definitley not pretty!

so, next on the agenda is to find a someone or somewhere to cut my big sheets of steel so that i can produce some more work.  i currently have some huge sheets of steel that need chopping up into smaller managable pieces so if anyone reading this can help, i would be very very grateful!

in other news, i am now on twitter!  i have been for a while but its taken a wee while to get into the habit of ‘tweeting’!  so please feel free to follow me, i’m beth_walls.

well i think that’s all for now,

i will be back soon, and even soon on twitter… so go on- follow me!

well, i’m done for the day!  the light has disappeared so it’s definitley time for dinner!

so far the painting isn’t going as well as i’d like but im refusing to panic just yet!  i’m not too happy with the palet, i feel its a bit too uniform and the surface has the potential to look rather “knitted”.  however this is only the early stages and i guess its a good thing i am aware of these and other parts that i’m not happy with so i know i can rectify them.

below is the latest image,  please do let me know your thoughts!

thanks!

well it’s been a while since i last posted anything on here, my apologies, severl other things getting in the way, however, i am now back and working again… hurrah i hear you cry (ever so quietly!)

i am currently working on a painting i have wanted to do for a long tme but haven’t found the right composition, but i recently sponaneously snapped the subject, so i’m giving this image a go… it might turn out to be a flop, but hey, i won’t know till i try eh!

as any of you who have read any of my posts or artist statement on here will know, the artistic process is very important to me and my working, so below is the first image of the new painting, what you see below is exactly how it looks right now (17:23, 24/04/09) so it’s as close to real time as you’re going to get i guess!

i will post more images as the work progresses, i hope to get some if not most of the detailing done today, hopefully the light will hold out for me!

please do let me know your thoughts and i really do appreciate your crits!  lots of love and painty kisses,

hi everyone…

following on from my previous journal post, i have been looking into facial disfiguration,  i have found a wealth of imagery, some pretty tough to comprehend especailly when the stories that accompany the images are as harrowing as they have been….  i have been totaly overwhelmed by the traumas and experiences some people have dealt with, and continue to deal with as they adjust to new appearances and/or disablities.

below are a few images of a painting i am working on, and the initial sketch it is based on.  the disfiguration depicted is called a noma.  it is caused by several tumours eating away at other parts of the face.

the varying stages of the work in progress is shown in these images, the painting is not finished, i wil go back to it and faff and tweek it till i am happy with it….! could be some time then!

i really do welcome all comments and critiques!

thanks for popping by, and i look forward to hearing your feedback and updating this soon with more works…. woo!

while on the tube a few days ago, i caught sight of a poster advertising a charity called changing faces; a charity for raising awareness of facial disfigurement.  it got me thinking about my work and ideas on what we class is a disfigurement…

something happened which resulted in a temporary or permanent change in the way a face is constructed/ structured/ surfaced…

birth “defect”… a unique value or social and personal burden

trace of experience

hide/ reveal

cover/ mask/ protect- self/ wound

graft/ chemical treatment/ natural healing

paint/ collage/ scrape off/ re-apply/ play around with scale within composition……

well 2009 is here (scary huh!?)  and the time for new years resolutions…

well, i won’t bore you with mine, but all but one start on february 1st…!

the only one that has already started is for me to get focused on getting my work going.  my studio is ready and raring to go, complete with mis-matching furniture and several old jam jars full of bits and bobs… all looking very arty..! :o)

i’ve got several ideas swimming around at the mo, which i will share once i have worked them a little…

but for now i will wish you a happy new year and i look forward to updating this and receiving your feedback.

thanks, and take care

well I thought I would start this journal properly with a bit of a brief introduction to who and what inspires me and my practice, with the hope that it might give you a bit of an insight into the world of beth!
